Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Newborn or Infant Specialist?
A Newborn Specialist is a caregiver and educator with specific experience in the care of infants. They have excellent communication and education skills and are comfortable working in the homes of families with infants. They are trained in infant and toddler CPR and may have degrees in social work or education.

What does a Newborn Specialist do?
Prior to baby's arrival, a Newborn Specialist can offer education and information to parents as they prepare. After the birth, a Newborn Specialist can work together with parents in the home as they care for their new baby, or part-time nanny services can be arranged. A Newborn Specialist can be especially helpful to parents of multiples, offering an extra set of hands for feeding, diapering, and soothing.

When do you need a Newborn Specialist?
Some new parents have little or no experience with infants. Extended family may be unavailable to help with a new baby. While the staff at Nurturing Newborns strongly believes that your infant's pediatrician is the best resource for parents, often questions arise that require quick, practical solutions. In some situations, a kind, calm, encouraging word from a Newborn Specialist can help ease the worry and anxiety new parents may experience.

What is a Newborn? What is an Infant?
At Nurturing Newborns, we work with both newborns and infants. A newborn is birth to 3 months. Infants are 3 - 12 months. These terms will be used interchangeably within this site.
